What does it take to change your license type or add another license option to your home?

Infant/Toddler

You can switch back and forth between a regular and Infant/Toddler License through out the day.

1 year of experience caring for children 3 years of age or younger in a:

  • Family Child Care Home
  • Military Licensed Home
  • Foster Care Home (certified)
  • An employee of a licensed child care center

Must be 21 years of age or older

Three Under Two

Can switch between this license and the regular license any time during the day as needed. No care for additional school aged children authorized under this license.

Have had a Regular License for at least 2 years immediately before applying.

Complete Expanding Quality in Infant & Toddler Care (EQIT) training

In past 2 years no substantiated complaints (level 1-3) for:

  • ratio violations
  • supervision
  • safety
  • injury to a child observed during a licensing visit or adverse action

Large Home

No more than 2 under the age of 2. Watch up to 12 children (need an assistant when 9th child arrives).

Have had a Regular License for at least 2 years immediately before applying (without any substantiated complaints or adverse action).

OR 1 yr experience plus 2 years of college with 1 ECE class

OR a certification as a Child Development Associate (CDA)

OR 2 years experience AND EQIT

Experienced Provider

Can care for 9 children of varying ages. Waives ability to appeal rules related to capacity and space requirements; license reverts to a regular license immediately if capacity is ever exceeded.

Have been a licensed home provider for 6 consecutive years.

90 clock hours of training in 6 years (not including Universal Precautions, 1st Aid/CPR and Medication Administration training.
