THE PROBLEM ECPAC IS WORKING TO IMPROVE:
Of the 282 licensed Early Care and Education programs in Adams County, only 45% are engaged in working through the state’s quality rating system. The state’s goal is that 60% are working towards in reaching a Level 2-5.

There are various barriers for programs to engage – including technology and connectivity access, language and cultural barriers, and the fact that many programs are still working to keep their businesses stable as a result of COVID

WHY THIS IS IMPORTANT:
Decades of research shows that when children attend a high-quality early care and education program, they experience long term benefits. This is especially true for children who live in poverty. Children experience greater readiness in terms of skills and knowledge for elementary school and enhanced social-emotional development, both which lead to long term school success.

Additionally important is the overall well-being of the early care and education providers who are not highly valued or compensated for the very important job they perform each day.

THE STRATEGIES ECPAC IS EMPLOYING:
ECPAC has numerous strategies dedicated to the Early Care and Education industry. Specifically related to supporting programs in achieving a high-quality rating ECPAC:

• Has culturally responsive early care and education coaches who work alongside providers to assess and establish goals that guide and prepare them for a Colorado Shines Rating.
• Provides funding for programs to purchase learning materials to enhance the quality of care and learning
• Supports professional development goals of providers
• Supports navigating various online systems required for engagement
• Demonstrates value for ECE professionals and the important role they play in children’s lives

THE IMPACT:
Of the 45% of programs who have achieved a Level 2 or higher in the rating system, 42% have reached a Level 3-5, considered “high-quality,” with the remaining 58% actively working towards this.

All of the Early Care and Education programs who are currently engaged; Funders: the Colorado Department of Human Services – Office of Early Childhood (coaching and funding for learning materials and systems and policy efforts), and Temple Hoyne Buell and Mile High United Way (professional development supports)
